Hot News: 2014 Peugeot RCZ R to Debut at Goodwood Festival 2013

The Peugeot RCZ R will be revealed to the world in production form at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on 12 July.

The RCZ R is the most powerful road-going model the company has ever built and is powered by a 260bhp version of the standard car's 1.6-litre turbo engine.

Performance figures are yet to be released - pending the debut in July -  but Peugeot has confirmed that the new car will feature a mechanical limited-slip differential to help cope with the extra grunt.

The suspension will also get a bespoke tuning and the RCZ R will also get unique styling similar to the concept car that was revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March. The concept had twin-exit exhausts, multi-spoke alloy wheels and stylish copper detailing along the contrasting roof line and brake calipers. We can confirm that the 'R' model will get a prominent fixed rear spoiler rather than the speed sensitive retractable unit from the standard car.

Peugeot is also claiming that the RCZ R will set new standards for efficiency, with a C02 emissions target of just 155g/km. The similarly powerful VW Scirocco R emits a comparatively high 189g/km.

The RCZ R will not be a special-edition model but will instead be offered alongside the facelifted range. Around 85 per cent of currrent UK sales are of the sporty GT model and around a quarter of those are of the range-topping 197bhp petrol model.

Two red RCZ Rs will be on static display on the stand at Goodwood. Peugeot ambassador Bradley Philpot will also be driving them up the famous hill route but we will have to wait until the international launch in November to find out how it drives. For more details click here.
