New Car: 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera 50 Years Edition

Porsche is marking half a century of its most famous sports car with this 911 50 Years Edition.

Due to appear on the Frankfurt Motor Show stand 50 years after the original type 901 – later renamed 911 – in 1963, this limited-run model is based on the Carrera S but features the 44mm wider rear from the Carrera 4S.

As you might expect it features a host of styling nods to the 911’s rich heritage, with unique 20-inch Fuchs-inspired alloys and chrome-lined engine vents.

The 50 Years Edition uses the same 3.8-litre flat-six engine as the Carrera S and posts an identical sprint time of 4.5 seconds to 62mph - although opting for the PDK auto shaves off two tenths.

Inside, there are bespoke touches like green lettering and white needles for the dials, tartan fabric panels in the leather seats and a brushed aluminium finish for the gear stick, doors and centre console.

Prices start from £92,257, which is £8,809 more than a standard Carrera S. However, its exclusivity is assured, as Porsche plans to make just 1,963 in total.

The limited-edition model is available to order now with first deliveries in early September. For more details click here.
