This is the first pictures of the Skoda Rapid Spaceback, a more conventional hatchback version of the Skoda Rapid liftback. The pictures appeared on Autoforum.cz yesterday.

Skoda had previously confirmed to Autocar that a hatchback version was in development. The new Rapid Spaceback will be shown at the Frankfurt motor show in September.

Skoda officials have told Czech media that the model will go into production in August and be on sale in the autumn. It’s likely to take the Spaceback name for production.

A Seat version of the Rapid Spaceback is likely to follow, given the existing close relationship between the Rapid and the Seat Toledo.

It is expected the Rapid's engine line-up and equipment grades will be carried over unchanged.
