Recall Up Date: 2007-2008 Honda Fit

The Problem: Under “severe conditions” rain water or other liquids could enter through an open window, and enter the master power window switch. Over time, exposure to water or moisture could build up electrical resistance within the switch, which could lead to the switch overheating or melting, which could manifest itself as smoke, and could potentially cause a fire.

The Fix: Honda will contact affected owners by mail starting mid-July 2013. Vehicles will be inspected by dealerships. Switches showing damage will be repaired immediately, and cars with switches not showing damage will be put on a wait list for replacement, as soon as sufficient supply of replacement switch modules become available. Until cars are inspected or repaired, owners are advised to park their vehicles outdoors. Owners can visit www.recalls.honda.com, or call 800-999-1009, and select option 4.

Number of Vehicles Affected:  143,083 2007-2008 model year Honda Fit vehicles sold in the U.S.
