Hyundai Azeras from the 2012-2013 model years made from May 22, 2012 through November 23, 2012 may be equipped with an occupant detection system that has difficulty distinguishing between an adult, child, or child restraint seat in the front seat. If the front passenger seat occupant is improperly classified, the airbag could deploy with lesser or greater force than is appropriate in a crash.
The Fix: Hyundai will recalibrate the airbag system;
a notification schedule has not yet been provided. Hyundai owners can
contact 1-800-633-5151 about Campaign 111 with questions or concerns.
Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 5200 Azeras in the U.S. and 5 in Puerto Rico.
