Unofficial Picture Up Date: 2014 Mazda 3 Sedan

Following the launch of the new Mazda3, pictures of the new saloon version have found their way onto the Internet. Set to rival the new Audi A3 saloon, the new Mazda3 saloon will be making its way into the biggest car market segment globally. With huge popularity in markets such as China, Russia and the US, the Mazda3 saloon is likely to be Mazda's best-seller.

Like the all-new Mazda3, the saloon version will feature a mini-me Mazda6-inspired design.

The saloon does away with the gaping front grille fitted to its predecessor and features Mazda's stylish KODO design language that debuted on the larger 6. More athletic and sportier styling is designed to increase the appeal of the car to younger buyers.

Inside, the saloon will be virtually identical to the hatchback launched in June. A fresher design and improved materials as well as a head-up display will be featured. Thanks to the extended rear overhang, expect to see a substantial increase in boot capacity too.

At present, there is no official announcement about the engine line-up but it is expected the saloon will borrow its engines from the hatchback, which will include the all-new 99bhp 1.5-litre Skyactive-G petrol engine. There’s also the same 2.0-litre petrol engine, with either 118bhp or 163bhp and the 2.2-litre diesel from the Mazda6 range.

If the engine line-up is as stated, all engines are likely to be right up with the best in class for efficiency. Given the Mazda6 manages 67.3mpg and 109g/km of CO2 and weighs more, the Mazda3 saloon should be sub-100g/km and over 70mpg, but this is yet to be confirmed. For more details click here.
