Waiting for STI to add power to the Subaru BRZ? Keep dreaming. After getting our hopes up with a teaser-image of an STI-badged BRZ earlier this month, Subaru has unveiled the limited-edition Japan-only Subaru BRZ tS, which is tuned to enhance handling, not add power.
Resembling the Subaru BRZ STI concept Subaru showed off before the car’s
official unveiling, the BRZ tS has been fitted with STI-designed
performance parts to make it handle (and look) even better than before.
The extensive list of mechanical modifications on the Subaru BRZ tS
include a new STI-designed suspension, a larger-diameter driveshaft,
18×7-inch wheels shod with Michelin Pilot Super sports, and Brembo
brakes all around – addressing one of the few non-power related issues we have with the BRZ and its Scion FR-S cousin.
Like other tuned by STI products,
the BRZ tS also features a few visual flourishes, like a new front
under spoiler, and liberal use of STI badging. For those who want for a
bit more show, there’s also going to be Subaru BRZ tS GT Package, which
includes a dry carbon rear wing, black BBS wheels, and Recaro bucket
Subaru plans on building examples of the BRZ tS for the Japanese
market only. Of the 500 Subaru BRZ tS cars, 250 will be fitted with the
GT Package. It may not be the STI we’ve been hoping for, but maybe this
could be our first preview of some of the performance pieces Subaru has
in store for us when we get the turbocharged Subaru BRZ STI.
