Spied: 2015 Kia Sedona

Growing up, my dad always told me to never make promises that I can’t deliver on. Kia must’ve had the same lesson. Back in 2012 it announced it’d be halting production of the Kia Sedona for the 2013 model year, before bringing it back, and then ultimately replacing it with a new model. Many in the industry thought that was the death knell for the Kia minivan, but Kia’s one for keeping its promises. With the 2014 Kia Sedona back in production, its sharp-looking replacement model was spied testing in Europe.

Likely a 2015 model, this next-gen Kia Sedona prototype sports styling reminiscent of the futuristic Kia KV7 Concept. Though the new Sedona won’t sport the KV7′s gullwing doors, many of its styling cues live on in the new minivan. Like the concept, the wheels of the next-gen Sedona are pushed out near the van’s corners, with a similar beltline featuring a sharp tick upwards behind the rear sliding doors. In back we’re expecting LED taillights to run the full width of the tailgate, just like the KV7 Concept.
The one place where the new Sedona diverges drastically from the KV7 is up front. The next-gen Kia Sedona looks to have similar headlights, but in a smaller, more compact unit, while the new Kia “Tiger Nose” grille looks to be massive on the new car.

Though our spy photographer reports this Kia Sedona prototype was powered by a diesel, we’re expecting the U.S.-lineup to feature gas engines. The new Sedona should mimic the KV7 by offering Kia’s 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 making as much as 280 hp under the hood, with the new 2014 Sorento’s 3.3-liter V-6 also a possibility.

The new Kia Sedona will likely debut in 2014 as a 2015 model.
