Spied Up Date: 2014 Porsche 918 Spyder

The Porsche 918 Spyder has been spotted in final production form for the first time.

The car, which was revealed in a tweet from Porsche, had its dynamic debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed earlier in the summer — but even then was still described as being in late pre-production form. The £628,000 hypercar, which is set to rival the likes of McLaren's P1 and the LaFerrari, will go on sale next month.

Initially it will be offered in standard specification, with a Weissach performance package, priced at £745,000, being offered later on. The performance package is expected to include extra use of ceramic, titanium and magnesium parts.

Performance-wise, the 918 Spyder offers a 0-62mph time of less than three seconds and a top speed of over 200mph. It is powered by a 4.0-litre V8 engine combined with electric motors.

As well as being fast, however, Porsche has taken big steps to make the 918 Spyder frugal, claiming CO2 emissions of 70g/km and 94.1mpg.
