The Problem: The automaker says that affected vehicles may have transmission output shafts that were formed with a two-stage forging process. Those shafts could fracture, resulting in powertrain damage and an accident.
The Fix: The two-stage forging
process has since been replaced with a single-stage method. Chrysler
will inspect and test the transmission shafts in the affected vehicles,
and will replace the shafts if needed.
Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected:
The recall affects about 5663 vehicles. Chrysler said the recall
includes vehicles equipped with 4x4 (or all-wheel drive), an 8-speed
automatic transmission, and a six-cylinder engine.
