Detroit may be going through some dark days, but Chevy is certainly looking to brighten up the Motor City during January's North American International Auto Show. The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z06 is due to make its debut at the Detroit show, and in an effort to upstage the unveiling of the 2015 Ford Mustang, Chevy has just released a teaser of the first high-performance C7 'Vette.
Chevy's sole teaser image (which is sure to be
the first of many) shows off the 2015 Corvette Z06's front quarter panel
and wheel. The teaser doesn't reveal a ton about the new Corvette Z06,
though it does look to have carbon fiber rocker panels, and bulged
fenders. One thing the teaser does show is the 2015 Z06's tires: it's
wearing ultra-sticky Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup tires. We blew up
the image and could also just make out the 2015 Corvette Z06's tire size
– which appears to be 285/30/19. If we're correct, that equals the C6
Corvette Z06 Z07 (and Corvette ZR1), and is massive for a front tire.
The new Z06's rear tires could possibly be even wider than that.
As for what's powering the new Corvette,
we wouldn't be surprised to see the latest evolution of the previous
Z06's LS7 naturally aspirated 7.0-liter V-8 under the hood, perhaps with
direct injection. Other possibilities include a higher-power version of
the base Stingray's LT1 V-8, or maybe even a supercharged version, given GM's penchant for supercharged V-8s.
