The Problem: Certain 2012-2013 Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD pickups with the 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel V-8 and dual fuel tanks are being recalled because the transfer pump that moves fuel from the rear tank to the front tank could malfunction. If the transfer pump malfunctions, the fuel gauge could give a false reading that may result in a vehicle stall and an increased risk of a crash.
The Fix: The automaker will
notify owners to take the affected vehicle to a dealer to inspect and,
if necessary, replace the fuel transfer pump. Owners may contact General
Motors at 1-800-462-8782 for more information on this recall, under
campaign number 13420.
Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 9733 Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD pickups from the 2012 and 2013 model years.
