Sneak Peek: Nissan Sport Sedan

With the 2014 Detroit auto show just around the corner, automakers are beginning to tease us with concept car images. Among them is this image of the Nissan Sport Sedan concept that not only hints at the next-generation Maxima sedan, but also the future design direction of the brand.

Earlier this year, the automaker briefly showed a new concept during the Nissan 360 event that is believed to be the next Maxima sedan. While the automaker didn’t release any official photos of the concept, the similarities with this artist rendering (right) suggests that the new teaser image is of the same car. Up front, the Sport Sedan concept features a “V-shaped” front grille and a new interpretation of the automaker’s boomerang headlights featuring a cluster of four LED lamps.

Nissan says the new Sport Sedan concept “previews a new energetic design direction that amplifies Nissan’s legendary approach of applying sports car principles to a sedan.” While the Sports Sedan concept teaser image and artist rendering hint at a four-door coupe profile, the IDx Freeflow and IDx Nismo concepts from the 2013 Tokyo auto show showcase an upright three-box design for their coupe bodystyle. The rear-drive IDx concepts will make their North American debut alongside the Sport Sedan concept’s global debut.
