First Sketch: Skoda VisionC Concept

Skoda has released the first sketch of a striking new concept car, set to debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Called the Skoda VisionC it takes the form of a five-door coupe - much like the Mercedes CLA - and according to Skoda "shows the possibility of innovative body concepts."

We broke the story back in December 2013 that Skoda was planning a stylish show car for Geneva, and right on cue it's revealed this sketch, which tallies perfectly with our artist's illustration. From its oversize wheels and wedge-shaped headlights to the bold crease running the length of the car, it shows future Skodas won't only be about practicality and value, there's room for style, too.

"The design of Skoda cars is playing an ever more important role and shows the brand's emotional vibrancy and power," an official statement said. "Skoda's design is becoming more expressive, dynamic and emotional."

It's not clear whether the VisionC concept will spawn a production model, but if it does its dimensions are expected to match up with the Octavia hatchback, and use the same MQB architecture underneath.

The VW Group wants to become the world’s largest manufacturer by 2018, and has set Skoda ambitious sales targets of 1.5 million models a year by then - a fifty per cent increase on 2013. A seven-seat SUV, due in 2016, and a stylish four-door like this are crucial for broadening the brand's global appeal. For more details click here.
