New Concept Car: IED - Hyundai PassoCorto

Kia brought us the GT4 Stinger concept at the Detroit Motor Show in January, but have you ever wondered what a sports car from its sister company, Hyundai, would look like? Well, wonder no longer, the Hyundai PassoCorto is here.

A group of design students from the IED (Istituto Europeo di Design) in Turin have created a sports car concept called the PassoCorto, shown here for the first time, under the watchful eye of Hyundai’s European design studio.

The two-seater, rear-wheel drive coupe features a rear-mounted 1.6-litre four-cylinder twin-turbo engine producing 266bhp – 45bhp less than the 2.0-litre turbo in the Kia GT4 Stinger concept.

Students were asked to produce something that appealed to young buyers, so were told to envisage themselves as potential customers. The sixteen students involved were guided by Luca Borgogno, lead designer at Pininfarina, and given feedback by designers from Hyundai’s European design centre.

However, Hyundai has stressed that this is merely a student design exercise and there are no plans to a put a car like this into production. A full scale model will debut at the Geneva Motor Show next week, alongside Hyundai’s official Intrado SUV concept. For more details click here.
