NY Show 2015 Highlights: 2016 Mercedes GLE-Class
Last year, Mercedes announced that they will change the nomenclature to their product, including M-Class that transforms to GLE-Class. At 2015 New York Auto Show the German automaker introduced the new name of its mid-size luxury SUV and the new face (facelift). Its exterior design is almost the same with GLE Coupe. But Mercedes designers added some changes to differentiate between the real SUV and the crossover. Front, the change is only in the grille that now comes with more elegant design and two horizontal lines. Meanwhile its headlights has the same design with the SUV-Coupe.
From the side, the coupe-like line is replaced with boxy line design just like regular SUV. At the rear, the automaker redesigned the bumper, the dual-exhaust, and LED taillights. Inside, its cabin design is completely the same with GLE Coupe. It means that buyer will get thick steering wheel and a large infotainment display in the center cockpit. In the engine sector, there’s almost no change. But Mercedes added a plug-in hybrid option V6 3.0 liter twin turbocharged produces 328 hp. It’s accompanied by an electric motor that has 114 hp output. If conventional engine and electric motor work together, it can produce 436 ponies and 650 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to 7G-Tronic transmission.
